Persent Projects
A small effort to bring awareness in Community for 'Girl Child' was made on September 13, 2007. Anusaran conducted a workshop among the staff, their families, women and young girls from the community of a poor village area in West Delhi.

During this workshop following were discussed:
  • Gender discrimination made by the society in assigning roles and work to male and female. It was discussed that woman is capable to do productive (income generating) and decision making works.
  • How the changes can be brought gradually in the society. It was found that we have to start first from ourselves (realizing our self esteem), our families and then the society.

Some of the activities going on in Anusaran for Women's Empowerment were discussed:
  • Free education to women and children
  • Skill development programmes
  • Cricket match organized for girls on 15th August (Independence Day).
  • Girls got enrolled for their 12th class from National Open School (Anusaran is teaching them)
  • Conducting workshops to bring awareness.
  • In future to start a scholarship for deserving girls in the name of Amar Kanti Scholarship. (As Amar Kanti one of the very diligent girls, reached to God, this year in August after meeting an accident in her house (got electric shock from the loose wire of heater)).
At the end of the workshop some girls gave their testimonies/feedbacks:

Ruby :
"I was not confident at all before coming to Anusaran. After being learned here I got the opportunity now to teach other girls - vocational skills. It has increased my confidence. Now I can talk and teach confidently. Now I am able to speak to my parents and express my thought that I don't want to get married in remote village". (Her parents fixed her marriage in a remote village earlier). Her family listened to her.
Naina : "I was not having any ambition in my life before coming to Anusaran, but now I have a goal to become a fashion designer and I am sure that I can achieve it".
Shashi : "My education was stopped just after doing 8th class, but now I am thankful; I have finished my 10th class last year by the help of Anusaran and now I have been enrolled for 12th class this year."
Aditi : "I am here for last 4 years since when I was in my 3rd class. I was weak in English. But now I can translate for the volunteers, who come for teaching in our school. My parents are so happy and are proud of me.
Asha : "I have two children, I have learned here how to take good care of my family and raise both my children (son & daughter) equally".
Nitu : "Previously I was not able to speak in front of my mother and brothers. But when in Anusaran I have been offered to teach the children of group I, I was so happy and convinced my family. Now I feel that I can make decisions for myself".
Sheela : "Earlier I was not able to speak in front of my parents and hence missed lots of events in Anusaran but now I am able to talk to my parents and express my desires".

Anusaran is moving in direction to deal with the issue of Girl Child by:
  • Sensitizing the community/society
  • Bringing awareness in community
  • Advocacy for girl child
  • Women's empowerment
  • Providing and encouraging free education to deprived girl children
  • Making Parents Teacher Association
  • Spiritual orientation
Together we can achieve it!!

Sincerely,

Abha David
